Being a Gamer Mum {& proud of it too!}

I can remember {a long time ago now} being 7 or 8yrs old and beating my cousins so hard at Pac-man on the atari. Most kids nowadays will have no clue what an atari is, but man, we loved it. So much fun. A few years after that I was bought my first ever computer. Back in the 80’s & 90’s, it was all about Commodores, Spectrums, and Amstrads. My Dad bought me a Commodore VIC 20 for Christmas one year and I was beside myself. Back then having that big fat monitor, keyboard and cassette player {to play your games – yes, they came on cassette!}…I felt like such a nerd and I could not have been more in my element.

I was upgraded a year or so after that to a Commodore 64 and that’s when my gaming love started to bloom. Games like Donkey Kong, Lemmings, Paper Boy, Ghouls & Ghosts and Bubble Bobble were continually played and even to this day fondly remembered.

I’ve watched consoles evolve over my 20yrs of gaming and the distance they’ve come is pretty outstanding. Nowadays, as much as I love playing the occasional console game {Diablo, Tombraider etc} I’m more of a PC gamer these days. I can often be found on Summoners rift or the Crystal Scar on League of Legends and I’m often found fighting beasts and slaying ogres over on Azeroth in World of Warcraft.

Although now I think about it, I’m a huge Minecraft player too {although it’s been a while}. There’s something about mining and building whatever your mind can conjure up being immensely relaxing. Also, my kids are super impressed when they see my constructs and I think it even wins me super cool Mum points too.

You’re maybe thinking how on earth I find the time to play these games when I’m a Super Busy Mum to five kids! Well, 4 out of those 5 can pretty much take care of themselves and not only that, I fit in game time in the evenings. There has been the occasional hour on the weekends that I’ve been able to play when the kids are watching a movie or something. But my gaming love is mainly a hobby that I get to fulfill on my own time i.e when the kids are asleep in the evenings. It’s something I adore having in my life, regardless of my age and I doubt it is something I will give up anytime soon.

My kids are even getting to the age where they love playing the same games I do! There’s something really fun just chilling out with the kids on our notebook laptops and having a little LAN party whether it be in Minecraft killing exploding creepers or them wanting to level up a character in World of Warcraft. It’s pretty cool not only getting to play games in my own time but being able to share that love with my children too is pretty priceless.

Disclosure: This is a collaboration with Dell, but all thoughts are my own.

    A girl of my own heart. I had the Atari ST and was hooked on Pac Man, Bomb Jack, Lemmings, Nebulus and Lotus Turbo!

    WoW…I’ve finally found a mum who is into games! So many are against it. My sons are computer mad and my partner so it has rubbed off on me.
    Growing up my brothers had a comodore 64 so gaming has always been around me!
