Dreaming of a Summer holiday #SimpsonTravel

Going anywhere as a family is incredibly important to me. Being a Super Busy Mum {pun intended} with a super busy family we can often be like ships in the night. We get swept up by schooldays, homework, daily life commitments and then some. So when it comes to taking time out and spending some good old-fashioned quality time with my family – it’s something very dear to me.

Usually, we do this by having movie nights and gaming afternoons – nothing beats some Pokemon monopoly or a round or two of Munchkin in our house. But going beyond those movie nights and games, we love to plan our annual family holidays together.

Once I heard Simply Travel were looking for an ambassador for 2018 I knew I had to get involved. Being an aspiring Travel blogger I would have kicked myself if I didn’t. I knew it was my chance to share our family holiday experiences – thus far – and to also share with you what we would look for when organising our own family holiday with Simpson Travel. However, wherever we are I always make one simple request – for us all to try at least one thing we never have before. For example…

When we visited Blackpool, we braved the glass floor at the top of the Blackpool tower!

When we visited Croix Du Vieux Pont in France, it was the place Ellie went kayaking for the first time.

When we went away to Haven in Burnham-on-sea in Somerset, Jacob came home being able to tie his shoelaces & Annabelle handfed a Llama for the first time, too.

Now, having the nerve to try something new & exciting, aside. We’ve only ever been away on a family holiday abroad, once. Which was our holiday with Eurocamp in France and we truly did have the most amazing time. We have never gone on an all-inclusive holiday – they’ve all been caravan holidays – so we have no previous experience with what to expect. But I can tell you from seeing friends & families experiences abroad, things we would love to experience for ourselves if we were lucky enough to go abroad again.

Ease of travel is something we really look for when going away and we don’t mind long flights or train rides, they make the experience! But I read that Simpson travel can help you sort out transfers from the airport to your accommodation, which I think is amazing. We are non-drivers, so knowing – if we were going away via Simpson travel – that we could have everything taken care of before we even take-off! It’s little touches like this that can have such a huge impact on your travel experience.

Kids on train to Dublin

Being by the pool is something we love to do together. On every holiday we have ever gone on, being in the pool {or by the sea} has been a firm favourite activity. My kids love to body board and I am hoping that love for watersports continues! Watching my children become more confident in the water is exciting and you never know, the next holiday we go on my 2 youngest children could learn how to swim!

Exploring somewhere new & exciting is a requirement of ours. We have this vision to stick a pin in our world map of every new place we are lucky enough to travel to. I have dreams of seeing the idyllic and picturesque sights of Provence or scuba diving along the shoreline of  Porto Vecchio & Bonifacio. Simpson travel provide destinations that I have never seen {and not even ashamed to say it} heard of before and that is why they excite me. They are places I want my children to see, and explore and gather up new memories to last a lifetime.

When we were in Berny-Riviera, France, we did a quick google search of places nearby – hired some bikes & off we went! The quaint town of Vic Sur Aisne was just gorgeous – a real treat if your ever nearby to visit.

The kids club is something we have never experienced and I have heard so many incredibly good things about kids clubs on holidays abroad! From having a go at windsurfing, going sailing, making new friends and having a chance to be independent in a new and exciting place – hearing them rave to us about what they got up to over dinner! The idea of that excites me and makes my heart skip a little. I can just imagine their little faces and the confidence they’d develop – my 9yr isn’t the most confident of little guys, so gaining his confidence this summer is a priority for sure!

And lastly…

Having time with my Husband is another thing that, if I’m honest, we never get to do while on holiday. Family holidays {in our experience} have always had the children as our focal point. Doing everything they would love to do from dawn until dusk – which is standard for a family holiday – I’m not delusional! Which makes the only time I get with my husband is when the babes are all in bed for the night.

So we would love to take advantage of the Nanny service that Simpson Travel provides. Just being able to take 2hrs out for a simple meal {with no tiny hands stealing your food or someone telling you that they need a wee-wee!} and perhaps even a sunset stroll along the beach, hand in hand. It’s something we have never experienced together – so that is high on my holiday list, for sure.

Holidays for us are about switching off, having some days that are planned – to explore as much as we can & other days where we go with the flow. They are for eating ridiculous amounts of ice-cream and indulging in everything you can because holidays don’t last long & there are so many amazing things in the world to try.

Holidays are for living in shorts and having sandy toes, they’re for flying kites by the shores of waters you have never dipped your toes into before. They are for that all important ‘Mum request’ of trying something new. Being brave to look below the surface of the water with your new scuba mask or finally building up the courage to brave the local zip line adventure! It could even be something as amazing, like learning how to swim or trying a piece of food you’ve never tried before!

However, wherever we are, and whatever we do for our next family holiday adventure – I know it will be amazing!

I hope you win, this was a great read! I don’t think I’d have had the nerve to brave the glass floor at Blackpool Tower.

    • 16/02/2018 / 7:38 PM

Thank you so much, Kacie. You really have to talk yourself into standing on that glass floor! It’s not the easiest thing to do! lol.

  2. 16/02/2018 / 7:47 PM

We like trying something new when we go on holiday too! And eating ridiculous amounts of ice cream just like you – it’s a family tradition of ours to have an ice cream every single day. Love the photo of the five of you together.

I think it just gives the holiday an extra zing – don’t you think? I know my kids remember each holiday we’ve had by achieving something new & exciting and I love how they light up when they talk about it. And thank you!

  3. 16/02/2018 / 9:18 PM

love the pictures of your travels! I’d quite like to try the kids at a kids club when we go away – some me time might be quite nice in the sun lol. Good luck x

    • 19/02/2018 / 11:31 AM

Thank you! The kid’s clubs do sound amazing don’t they – as you said, even just getting a little you time! A book by the pool! Heavenly! Us parents need a holiday too, right? x

  4. 17/02/2018 / 8:34 AM

You nailed it with all of these things! A nanny service on holiday sounds absolutely divine. Even an hour to spend alone with my husband would make for a lovely evening treat.

    • 19/02/2018 / 7:39 AM

Thank you. As you said, even that 1hr with your partner makes all the difference and I reckon getting time together would make for a much more epic holiday experience!

  5. 17/02/2018 / 6:58 PM

This is so lovely! I remember visiting Blackpool Tower for the first time and absolutely loving being able to see down haha. I do hope you get it xx

    • 19/02/2018 / 7:38 AM

  7. 17/02/2018 / 9:23 PM

I live by the sea, and once the weather is even slightly sunny we are down there. Can’t wait to go on holiday!

    • 19/02/2018 / 7:36 AM

We live quite close to the sea ourselves! And nothing beats being by the beach on a sunny day.

  8. 18/02/2018 / 10:11 PM

Good luck with your entry. As long as there’s plenty to do for Caitlin and Ieuan, they’re happy – and the husband remembers the wine!

    • 19/02/2018 / 7:34 AM

Thank you! And I love your “and the husband remembers the wine” remark, haha!

  9. 19/02/2018 / 2:33 PM
