Aqua Dragons Deep Sea Habitat | Review

When I was little, I remember sporting a very cool watch that had a bubble on the top and it housed sea monkeys. My friends thought it was the coolest thing and I have to admit, I did too. Nowadays, fast forwarding 30yrs, Aqua Dragons are now the new cool aquatic creature to hatch & grow. Firstly, I want to get it out there that sea monkeys are not Aqua Dragons.

What are Aqua Dragons?

They are brine shrimp. Much like Sea monkeys, but they are two different genomes of the same species.

It has been quite a few years since our last bunch of aquatic hatchlings so it was going to fun to hatch some more. Also, the Aqua Dragons deep sea habitat looks very cool. Much different from any other habitats that we have used or seen in stores. This habitat, in particular, has built-in LED lights so you can view your Aqua Dragons at night.

The tank provided is pretty neat. It has a real aquarium look to it and it includes an aerator on top which keeps the water oxygenated. Once we put in two AAA batteries {which are not included} and filled up the habitat with bottled water, it was time to pour in the eggs.

The eggs will hatch upon contact with the water but it will take anything up to 48hrs before you see anything. We added some food with the stirrer provided and waited patiently for our little crustaceans to develop. While we waited I got the kids to look into their life cycle and Aqua Dragons can grow up to 2cm in length.

We set up our habitat four days ago now, and we are starting to see our Aqua Dragons swimming around. They are still incredibly small – something I couldn’t catch on camera – but it’s exciting to see that we have some in there. We feed ours every other day, with the little feeder that is provided within the kit and the kids love looking in on them from time to time.

Our Aqua Dragons sadly died after one week and we’re not entirely sure why. However, we’ve been informed that this does happen from time to time. But it’s good to know that you can buy more eggs if you wanted to have another go at growing them.

Overall, this is a fun, interactive and educational product for children. Especially those interested in animals and wildlife.

Disclosure: We were sent this Aqua Dragon kit in return for a review. All thoughts, photos & opinions are entirely my own
