5 reasons to visit Jamaica

I am pretty sure there are more than five reasons to visit Jamaica, but I think you’ll only need five. My first thought when I think of Jamaica is the bobsled team in Cool Runnings – just me? It’s one of my favourite movies and the characters are so fun & laid-back that they emanate everything Jamaica stands for. Which is beauty,  pride and reggae music!

Jamaica is an island in the middle of the Carribean seas and it’s one of those places that I personally, can only dream of visiting. It is an island where you can immerse yourself in adventure, stay in luxury rentals in Jamaica, or lose yourself in the beauty of its rainforests. You can hike up into the wondrous Blue Mountains and gaze at breathtaking views. Or simply, chill out on the beach, watching the sunset over the Carribean sea, with slow reggae music in the background. It sounds blissfully magical, right? I can almost feel the coconut pina colada in my hand…

Jamaica is an island where you can visit as a solo traveller, with your partner, or your family. It is such a diverse and beautiful place that it is certainly a holiday destination you want to tick off your travel bucket list.

Reason #1 – The local cuisine.

I am not a foodie, but I appreciate good wholesome food. Jamaica is well-known, all around the globe for it’s exotic and locally sourced food. People have visited the island will tell you the must-have food to try is the jerk-seasoned dishes. It’s one of Jamaica most well-known meals. It is typically served on chicken or pork and the jerk-seasoning is known to pack quite the punch! I am such a spicy food lover and this dish certainly sounds like something I would enjoy during my travels.

However, the national dish of Jamaica is known as ackee and saltfish. The ackee is a locally grown fruit that is sauteed and served alongside onions, peppers, tomatoes and salt cod. The seafood is caught daily by Jamaican fisherman, so if you’re looking for the ultimate fresh seafood cuisine and you’re a foodie, I think this concludes reason number one why you should visit.

Reason #2 – Child-friendly resorts & activities.

If you’re looking to bring the little ones along on your Jamaican adventure, you can be rest-assured that the island is full of child-friendly resorts. There are many beautiful all-inclusive resorts to choose from, such as the Jewel Runaway Bay resort has something for all the family and not leaving out that luxurious feel. It has kids & teen camps, so Dad can play some golf and Mum can relax by the pool for a few hours. It even has it’s own Lagoon waterpark with slides and raft rides for kids of all ages. So there are loads of in-resort activities to keep everyone happy!

Wherever you unpack your suitcases, you will be able to find something fun for everyone to do on the island. From boat tours, scuba diving, you can visit Dolphin Cove, or even go on a Dunn’s River Falls day tour

Many resorts on the island also offer childcare services, day or night, when Mums & Dads need a little time to themselves. But it isn’t all colouring in pages and crayons, the kids are kept entertained and you can stay worry-free.

Reason #3 – The miles and miles of beaches.

Jamaica is known to have some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful beaches. Miles and miles of spectacular white sand waiting to be walked on, or relaxed on. You can walk along the famous Seven Miles beach – according to stories, Pirates used to haunt this stretch of golden sand!

But nowadays it is filled with sun-worshippers, delicious by-the-beach restaurants and places to quench your thirst.

Reason#4 – The Blue Hole

The Blue Hole, located in Ocho Rios, is known to be one of the best things to do in Jamaica. Taking a trip up to The Blue Hole will take around 1-2hrs, with a professional guide and you’ll witness breathtaking views and it is suitable for all ages. This gem of Jamaica is hidden up in the mountains, away from the usual hustle and bustle of the island.

Anyone who has visited this famous tourist attraction has said that it is an unforgettable afternoon. From having the privilege to swim in crystal blue waters and making new friends. You can have a go on the rope swing {if you’re brave enough!}, do a spot of waterfall hiking or even explore the Blue hole caves.

Reason#5 – The atmosphere of the island.

If you are looking for a destination that is beaming with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, along with locals who know how to enjoy life. Not to mention stunning views and amazing food then Jamaica is the place for you.

These five reasons are why one day, we will tick Jamaica off our travel bucket list. It looks like such an amazing holiday destination. If you have visited, I would love to hear about your adventures.
