Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, review

If you’re a kid of the 1980’s you’ll remember playing Mario on the classic Nintendo console; remember that little-pixelated guy? Well, he’s back! Super Mario Maker is a game that has me {at the age of 36} excited! The idea behind this game is to allow you the chance to create your own levels within the famous Mario game. How cool is that! This game was originally released back in 2015 for the Wii U but it’s now available for the Nintendo 3DS.

Super Mario Maker is a side-scrolling 2D platform video game with a near-endless amount of Mario courses available to play anytime, anywhere. Players can build & play Super Mario-inspired levels and play through the levels made by other players can either be super simple or near-gone impossible to complete – but that’s part of the fun!

There was a phrase that I came across online that said: This adventure/level-design game hands players moments where they say to themselves, “I wonder if I could make something like this?”. Super Mario Maker gives budding game designers the proverbial keys to the mushroom kingdom and answers “Let’s see what you’ve got!”. – Unknown.

The range of features that you can choose from to make your own Super Mario game level is pretty awesome. The creation suite is really simple to use and you’re given the tools to design everything you need to make an epic game level. Then, once you think you’re done, you press PLAY and you can play the level you’ve just made.

Sadly, though, there doesn’t seem to be online sharing of the levels you’ve just made, which I think would have made this game REALLY cool. But that doesn’t stop this game being insanely fun & really addictive to play. I mean, you have complete control over what you put into each level…you can create the weirdest levels, the easiest levels, the most difficult or just downright insane levels, then have a bash at completing them.

I mean, if you want to build a lava level with countless flaming balls with wings, lava, flame chomps, goombas and more {and more lava!} then be my guest {Best of luck to you too!}; I guess I’m just trying to tell you that there are no rules or restrictions in this game. There is no right or wrong, just, what you can create and complete. Go on, give it a try; it’s super fun!

Super Mario Maker is available to buy here and RRP for £34.99; this review was for the 3DS but Super Mario Maker is also available for the Nintendo Wii U also.

Happy creating!!

Disclosure: I was sent this game for the purpose of my review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

So so so so glad they finally made this game for the 3DS as my son was desperate to save up for a WII U just for this game! He has this wrapped up and ready for the big day 🙂
