Our 2016 Haven Holiday in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.

It is absolutely bonkers to think that I am back home already and typing up 2016’s family holiday blog post. It literally only feels like yesterday that we hopped into a taxi to take us to the airport to fly over to Somerset for our week of fun & adventure. Now we have returned with a mountain of laundry with my name on it. Gruff. But the kids have happy faces and a whole heap {like my laundry} of new memories to make them remember and smile. That makes it all worth it, without a shadow of a doubt.

This was our second Haven family holiday and it was ten times better {and then some} than our first Haven experience from back in 2014, which you can read about here. Compared to Marton Mere in Blackpool, Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset had so much that you could do and get involved in and we jumped into it all head first.

From the parks reception area I could smell the sea air due to being so close to the local beach {I adore that smell}, the giggles of children as they played in the many little play parks or the fun-filled sound of the arcades could be heard were I sat. It was bliss. We had arrived and the kids were wasting no time at all with enjoying their holiday.

The travelling part of the holiday was so straight forward. As non-drivers, it can be a bit of a pickle to get from A to B, but thankfully the park wasn’t too far from Bristol airport. It cost us around £40 in a taxi bus {there were 6 of us} and before we knew it we were there! We checked in, dropped our cases at the caravan and off we went exploring.

I personally think life in a caravan is pretty hard to beat. I spent a lot of my childhood in a caravan over school half terms and summer holidays with family in my much-loved part of Northern Ireland, Castlerock. I’m convinced that I’ll get a little bungalow there by the seaside when I’m old & grey.

There’s just something about residing in a caravan for the duration of your holiday. I bloody love the entire experience and I love that the kids enjoy it too.

There was hardly a day that went by that we didn’t head to the swimming pool, or paid a quick {and quite expensive} visit to the arcades or played in the play parks around the holiday park. We also made it our mission to go to the evening entertainment at the Showbar each evening too {bar a few evenings that we were just far to beat to move from the sofa!}. Annabelle loved the Show Bar, especially the Fun Stars and the Seaside Squad. Nothing quite makes your day when you see your 3yr old jumping to high five Polly the Lifeguard!

We enjoyed going on the Dragon boats in the park. This was Annabelle most requested thing to do EVER and her face when she couldn’t get into a Swan boat {due to having leaks} was pretty hilarious…

I of course, with having to mind the toddler in the back got driven around the lake by my two younger children. I felt a bit fabulous being chauffeured, I have to say! 😉

Our week in Haven literally flew by us at high speed. “Time flies when you’re having fun!” and all that – it’s so true. We visited Weston Super Mare {which I’ll share about in another post}, we also visited a local Animal Park which I’ll share with you shortly too. We squeezed in so much during our stay, we made new memories, laughed loads and I can honestly say I’ve not felt so relaxed in ages.

We were sad to have to leave but also looking forward to getting home to our own beds. Our bags were packed, our caravan locked up and keys handed back in and in no time at all we were ready to board our flight home. I just adore this shot of Annabelle looking longingly at the plane she was soon to board.

So once we got home and the endless piles of laundry were piled onto the floor ready for me the next morning. We ordered a takeaway and talked, laughed and reminisced about our time away as a family and what we planned to do {or go!} for our next one! 😉
