Back to school with Dr Martens!

In all the years I’ve been doing the annual ‘Back to School’ shop, I’ve never once considered getting the children Dr Martens footwear. Initially, I thought they’re too expensive, but when you think about those 3 pairs your child went through the previous year, the cost remains the same. So when my children and I were invited along to our local Dr Martens store in Belfast to view their new Back to School range, we couldn’t wait to check them out.

When we’ve been in the city we’ve seen the store in passing but never took the opportunity to go in until last weekend. The interior decor is super funky and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with the lovely Dr Marten Back to school range. The kids immediately went on a search for their chosen school shoes while I got a little distracted with the delicious little Dr Marten boots for toddlers! The cuteness almost hooked me to buy Annabelle a pair, but I resisted. Just about.

A lovely member of staff came over and asked us if we needed some help. Of course, we did and after explaining to him what we were in here for, he got right down to business. Asking the kids to choose their shoes, then they got their feet measured and their shoes put on and fitted. The service was lovely. The staff member we had was really kind, great with the kids and kept us all talking throughout the fitting experience.

Jacob decided on the lace up EVERLY kids shoe. They look really comfortable and according to Jacob, they were! I watched him walk about the store making sure they were the shoe for him, and I have to say they looked pretty smart on him. He said he chose the lace ups because it would encourage him to learn how to tie his laces this year. Aww.

Ellie decided on the gorgeous LORNE woman’s shoe. Her foot size is catching up to mine, so at a size 3, she’s no longer in the kid’s section. How did she grow up so fast?

As all of this was happening, with their Back to school promotion event, the Dr Marten store in Belfast had live music on throughout the weekend. The guy that was playing the guitar and singing when we were in the store was actually very good. He created a real upbeat mood too. It was so nice being able to hear something live rather than hearing the same old songs over the radio.

When it came to paying the kids were full of questions of when the Dr Marten Adventure Time boots were going on sale! The staff member got a quick Adventure Time run through too! What can I say, the kids love the show and got a little excited but I think we may have a new person watching the show soon! 😉 We said our thank yous and goodbyes & off we went.

We had a really great experience during our visit, the footwear is next to none. I mean, I’ve never personally worn Dr Martins footwear, but I do have friends that have had theirs for the guts of 15+yrs. So you without a shadow of a doubt, get your money’s worth. I also feel confident that these shoes will do the children for their entire school year. I have complete and total faith in these Dr Martens shoes and I now think it’ll be a footwear we invest in each school term from here on in.

Thanks so much to Dr Martens Store in Belfast for having us!

Disclosure: We were gifted one pair of Dr Martens shoes during our visit to this promotional event for the purpose of this review, and I bought the second pair from my own pocket. All thoughts, photos and opinions are my own.

I used to get my nephew’s DMs as hand me downs when they were my shoe size. I worked as a nurse and they are the best shoe if you are on your feet all day – love them!

Great review I love my DMs but I’ve never considered getting them for the kids for school but it totally makes sense as they are so hard wearing. Thanks for the idea! #MMWBH

I always think of Dr Martens as being the big heavy boots with yellow stitching lol. They look really hard wearing school shoes, let us know how you get one with them! Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested

Shoe shopping is always such a hassle sometimes, with the fitting and the trying on and the putting off, etc… I’m so glad you had a wonderful experience with Doc Martens. And the fact that they’re durable makes it all the more worth it. Thanks for sharing, Debs. Have a great rest of the week. Wonderful of you to host us again for #MMWBH 🙂

We are huge fans of Dr Martens!! I used to have them for school in the 90’s and I also had a pair of their boots with rainbow stitching. They were my pride and joy!

Charlie now has a pair of their bright pink boots. They are so cool! They go with everything, last forever and she gets so many compliments wearing them. She wore them all through winter, wears them with her tutu to go to dance and has worn them throughout the summer (because they’re her fav) with summer dresses. I was worried they wouldn’t go with many things, but couldn’t have been more wrong. Yeah, they are a bit on the pricey side, but for the amount they’ve been worn, they’re also kinda cheap! The plan is to get Noah some too come Autumn Xxx #MMWBH

Oh I totally agree that they’re worth the extra money for what you get.

I would never have thought about DM’s for school shoes, I just assume boots, boots and boots!!! They look like they will last a while too.

I really like Dr. Martens, they look really sturdy and stylish, but I’ve never even thought to check them out, will do that now! Thanks. How are the kids liking them?

    • 14/08/2015 / 7:50 AM

They are very much those two things Nikki. Before this I never thought to check them out either. The kids are loving them! We’re just trying to break them in now before they go back. x

I LOVE Dr Martens. I bought myself a pair about a year ago after too long away, and I am astonished at how well they’ve worn. The soles, no kidding, look like new. So I think we’re going to be getting my daughter some for her school shoes. The choices are a tad limited, as she has to have velcro ones, but they look good anyway and the price is about what I’d expect to pay for decent school shoes. #MMWBH
