An afternoon of dining, with Pizza Express

Over the weekend we were invited along to our local Pizza Express in Victoria Square, Belfast to review their latest menu for both grown-ups and the little ones. It was a gorgeous afternoon and even though we eat out, maybe, twice a month and have done for quite a few years now, Pizza Express was going to be a first for us. It always looked like a couples place {in my opinion} to eat and perhaps that’s why we had never paid it a visit before now.

However, upon walking in, my mind changed. The brickwork decor was warm and inviting, the relaxing music being played was lovely, the smell of the place was amazing and the staff were really welcoming.  We were kindly showed to our table and provided with a selection of menus. Ones for my partner and myself and also one for each of the children. The children were also supplied with little drawing packs that included stickers and some crayola twisties in a cute little tin. I felt relaxed and as a parent with 3 kids around a table, relaxing is usually the farthest thing from my mind.

The menus looked great. So much to choose from and if I’m honest, I was a little worried that the toddler wouldn’t enjoy anything from the menu, but I was wrong. We ordered our drinks and then a selection of starters. We chose the garlic dough balls for the children and garlic bread for both my partner and I. The garlic dough balls for the kids went down so well and they even the little side salad of peppers, cucumber, and carrots was enjoyed too. The garlic bread that my partner and I got has to be hands down, the nicest garlic bread that we have ever tasted.

For our main meals we chose a selection of pizzas, {Pollo Ad Asta & an Americano} and the kids chose kids sized americanos where the toddler asked for pasta. The staff member was amazing, because when I asked for Annabelles Napoletana from the gorgeous Piccolo menu {for the little ones} she kindly gave me the sauce for the dish separate so I could make it to how my toddler likes it best. How was that for service!

She also understood our kids with their fussy little tendencies and brought us our potato balls minus the cheese and parsley because she knew what kids thought of ‘green bits’ on their food. I honestly could have kissed her.

The food was delicious and I cannot tell you how excited it made me to see my toddler wolfing down the pasta and going “My lunch is nice!” while rubbing her belly.  The older children thoroughly enjoyed their meals also, as did the partner and I.

However now it was time for dessert. When we ordered the kids meals from the Piccolo menu, we got them the 3 meals for £6.95, that included a super cute bambinoccino. So the kids ordered two gelatos and a brownie, the partner declined a dessert treat {he’s not a big dessert person} and I went for the monstrous {yet amazingly scrumptious} chocolate glory.

The kids desserts looked super cute and they were very much enjoyed. The bambinoccinos were also much-loved and a new found favourite of the kids. Chocolate sprinkled milk with the smallest {and cutest} teaspoon in the world can do that to you.

My chocolate glory was glorious. Truly. If you ever go to Pizza Express you much try this dessert. The one I got was one to share in case the darling man changed his mind {which he did!}. The cake on top I was told is made in-house on a daily basis and I honestly need to know the recipe because the cake on top tasted so good that it made us sit back, close our eyes and just get lost in how delicious it was.

We enjoyed, not only a lovely lunch but a great ‘first’ Pizza Express experience too. Somewhere I think we will most definitely go to again. As a bit of extra information, the Pizza Express restaurants on the mainland in England have a great Ice Age collision menu available the little ones, so make sure to keep an eye out for that. Sadly, it’s not available in Northern Ireland branches.

Disclosure: Our meals were paid for, for the purpose of this review. All thought, photos and opinions are entirely my own.
