A true wonderland – Illuminasia, Blackpool!

When we went on holiday to Haven back in June, we got to visit one of Blackpools newest attractions, Illuminasia in the Winter Gardens. The idea is based on the beautiful chinese art of lantern making mixed with modern technology. Both of these crafts together make for a truly beautiful wonderland of light and beauty.

As soon as we walked up the red carpet to go in, we were greeted by a tour guide who informed the children of a certain job that they needed to complete as they went through the attraction and if they got all of the answers on their discovery trail correct, then they’d get a certificate at the end. This instantly had the kids attention and we were even more excited to go in.

As we walked up the steps we were greeted with this view…

Wow right?

I stood there at the viewing window and I fell in love. I have a slight adoration for the light you see. Fairy lights, twinkling lights, you name it. They have a real beauty about them and this view made me so excited to see what was around the next corner. The tour guide lead us into this insanely beautiful Chinese garden, lined with Chinese guards, cherry blossom trees {my absolute favourite tree in the world!} and lanterns hanging from the ceiling.

We met the lady you had the job to screw in each of the astonishing 5000 light bulbs that made up the exhibit and we were told how each construct was made. Each item had a steel frame that was covered in Chinese linen, each piece was truly exquisite.

The children were told that their next clue was to go and say hello to the Chinese emperor that lay in the next room. They were even taught how to say “Hello Emperor” to him and in Chinese that was “Ni Hao Kwon De” {Nee-how-kwon-de} along with the obligatory bow and hand gesture.

As we left the Emperor behind, we walked through a fabulous room filled with videos and the history of Blackpool and also a gorgeous planetarium style room that Annabelle adored, in fact, it was hard to actually remove her from this room!

We took a corner and we were taken down what looked like the inside of a snake that leads us into the Land of the Giants! Tall grass, giant Kingfishers, giant snails and more. This part was by far my favourite so far!!

This place is truly glorious and I for one could’ve happily pitched a tent and stayed there, soaking up its beauty. If you’re ever in Blackpool or just thinking of cruising by, I would honestly suggest popping in because it is stunning. They even put on a fabulous light show once you’ve reached the end of the tour…

Before/after the light show the kids were able to hand in their discovery sheets that they’d filled in as they ventured around and each was given a certificate.

When we go back we’ll be certainly popping in here again. It’s too pretty not too!
