A DIY Photobox Project, Review & Giveaway!

photoboo8For ages now I’ve felt saddened by the bareness of the head of my oldest girls bed. She claims the top bunk in the bedroom that she shares with her two year old sister, and as Belles Disney dolls and mega bloks dominate the ground area of the bedroom; I feel that this is the only space that Ellie can really put a stamp on to make her own. So I figured I give her that stamp.

I’ve been lucky to work with Photobox before, and this time I was sent a beautiful set of 36 retro prints in a magnetic box & there’s just something about a polariod style photo that fires you right back into yester years.
photoboo8The photo prints are just the most amazing quality. I just love them and they are going to look absolutely perfect on the project I have in mind.
photobox9Along with the photo prints I ordered some ping pong balls from ebay {stay with me} and popped into B&M to buy a set of 50 rice lights {I picked them up for £4.99}. Once the ping pong balls finally arrived {I really should check where they’re being mailed from because China is FAR!} I was able to put my vision to work.
11938909_850086701743489_1265816501_nI basically poked a little hole into each ping pong ball and popped the rice light into the ball & continued until all the lights where covered. I have to admit though, they looked fabulous and I adored how the ping pong balls made the lights to much softer, and less harsh.
11013249_881080771966808_7466342229412999825_nSo with my lights all made and ready to go, I got to work on my plan for above my girls bed. With a little imagination and letting the vision unravel before me, {with the help of some delicious purple polka dotted washi tape}…the lights where up! Now all I needed was my little pegs & to hang up some photos.
photobox2photoboxI absolutely love it & I love that my girl loves it too! She’s got all kinds of wonderful memories above her bed now; from our Haven holiday, our holiday with Eurocamp earlier this year, the time we went down the BIG ONE at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, times with family, time with friends and more. I will never forget the smile on her face as she just sat looking at them all.
photobox4I picked up the super sweet mini pegs from ebay, and I chose powder blue {Ellies favourite colour} and white. I think they match beautifully.
photobox5photobox3photobox7So there you go. My latest little DIY project for my girls room. I have a feeling over the years, as my girls grow there’ll be more little projects being done. But for now, I couldn’t be more content, that my daughter loves her fairy lit memory wall.

That looks amazing! I love it, want to make my own, need (?) to do it!!! Such a great idea and they’ll get more out of that than from a photobook.

Thanks so much Nicola. We have LOADS of photobooks just sitting on shelves. This way the photos can be changed every so often. I like that!

This is such a cute idea. I never even thought that you could use ping pong balls for such a pretty decoration. Just a question (since i’m pretty blonde when it comes to this), would the lights not get a bit too hot and sort of melt the ping pong balls. Only reason i’m asking is coz i’m so trying it this weekend…

    Thanks for sharing

Good question and no the lights don’t get to hot to cause this damage, as that would be a real fire hazard huh! The rice lights don’t get very warm and they’re never left on overnight.

Lovely! I wish i was more creative with things like this. I love the homemade lights and what a great way for your daughter to personalise her own space with various pictures. I may have to do this for my daughter when she gets a bit older! 🙂

Ohh, I recently got some Polaroid style prints in the post too and wanted to do something similar – we already have a “photo wall” like this above our fish tank with normal photos, so I think something like this would be nice for our little “family” nook we have in the living room. Love your little DIY hack; very clever! Ray xx #mmwbh

Love the lights with the photos! I always just use my phone for pictures. It’s just always to hand so easy to use. Even when I do take our camera out with us, it usually stays in the bag and I snap away with my phone!
