5 tips to get your Blog Brand-ready!

tips to get your blog brand readyWhen I started my blog 2 years ago I had no idea that one day I’d be making money from it by working with some truly amazing brands. You tend to think you’re just not good enough to work with brands, but I’m here to tell you that you are!

Brands are rarely just looking for one kind of blogger. You don’t have to be a pro-blogger for the brand to choose you to work with, because you could be setting yourself out among the rest and be just what that brand needs, regardless of how young {or old} your blog is. However, before you start getting in touch with brands, let’s make sure with a few easy steps that you get your blog brand-ready!

Make your ‘Work with me’ & ‘Contact me’ visible. I think this sort of thing is vital. Because a brand could pop over to your blog, really like it and want to get in touch but if they cannot see your contact page and anything else they might need to secure their decision to work with you then they’re going to move on.

Make sure your blog is mobile-friendly! Google recently changed its algorithm to give higher search scores to those sites that are ‘mobile friendly’. You can check if your blog is mobile friendly here and if it’s not, don’t panic!
blog brand ready mobile friendly blogIt could be something as simple as you’re using an older theme that isn’t responsive. Choosing a responsive theme for your blog tends to adapt to whatever it is being viewed on, whether that be a PC, phone or tablet.

Do a few product reviews on items you’ve bought. I actually did this quite a lot when I started my blog. I remember doing the most in-depth Cosatto Foxtrot Supa pushchair review you have ever seen. I wanted to make sure that I covered and shared every inch of this buggy with my growing audience. Doing things like this really pay off as it shows brands what you’re capable of when it comes to reviewing something for them.

Embrace share buttons! If you are going to work for a brand, that brand needs to see that their product is being liked, therefore being shared. This is where those precious share buttons come in because they make it easy for your readers to share your work.
brand ready blogI use Shareaholic because I am on WordPress. If you’re on Blogger you can use Share This to help promote your work for the brand you’re working for.

Check your side bar! You might be thinking “Is my sidebar really that important?” I’m here to tell you that yes, yes it is. Your sidebar is there to host the things matter most in this crazy bloggy world. Your face for example, social media buttons, what you & your blog share with the world etc. When I started out I thought having my sidebar bunged with companies I worked with etc and more was the ‘in thing’ to do. Share your ambassadorship badges and big brands you’ve been privileged to work with. Include your top posts, your most recent posts and maybe some simple graphics for the corners of your blog: Travel, Parenting, Reviews etc. Just make everything important easy & accessible for Brands hoping to work with you.

I hope some of these tips help you get your blog brand-ready! Is there anything else you would add to help you or anyone else further to help get their blog ready to work with Brands?

Great tips lovely – I’ve just realised I don’t actually have a ‘Work With Me’ bit so that might be something I have to add! x

Great tips. I think the other thing is make sure you understand what needs to be clearly marked as a sponsored / ad post so you’re not in breach of ASA guidelines and when a link has to be a follow / no follow so you’re not in breach of Google’s. I’ll check my pages now! #mmwbh

Some really great tips here! I’m off to install shareaholic now. I’ve just decluttered my sidebar and it’s made all the difference already. I didn’t think of practicing reviews by reviewing items we already have. What a great idea! x

Hi Debs, every now and again I wonder whether I could take my blog up a level and earn a little pocket money from it, but then my doubts kick in and I put the thought to the back of my head. One day I would like to take that step and your tips give me an idea of how to be ready to push myself forward.

Debs, I love this. I have been working to get the blog ready for monetizing, and it’s been a lot of work, but it’s so worth it. Everything changed, from my theme to design to post ideas and series. I’m much happier with my site and perhaps one of these days, hopefully soon, I will jump into this more seriously! Thanks for the cues and tips, you’ve pushed me to keep working on this track!
